LABOR DAY WEEKEND WITH THE BEVERLYS

Labor Day with the Beverlys at Surf Side Beach was a blast! The kids said over and over that they had a great time and didn't want to go home. We headed down to Houston after school on Friday getting there at about 11pm. Scott's parents had rented a 8 bedroom 5 bathroom beach house named El Patron and it was right on the beach for the huge group of 32 for the whole weekend. His family is a lot of fun and we havent seen them much this year so it was nice to get to spend some time with everyone all at once. The kids spent a lot of time in the ocean which frightened me a little (a guy was fishing right of the shore next to us and had caught 5 sharks - see pic of Kamdon holding a baby hammerhead - and where there are babies there are mammas) there were also lots of dolphins not to much further out than the kids were venturing. We did spend the whole weekend glued to the Tv as hurricane Gustav was making its way up from Cuba and we weren't sure where it was going to hit land - I guess probably the reason for the sea life being so close to shore. Actually on Saturday Scott's brother-in-law Buda had to drive back to Louisiana (that's where they live) and retrieve their dogs and secure their homes but joined us later Saturday night. Also do to the storm Scott's two Aunts and their husbands cut the weekend short to beat the traffic down south to their homes. However, we never saw any rain or even storm clouds it was beautiful the whole time - the water may have been a little more choppy than normal but still fine. This was Brooklyn's first time near the ocean where she totally got in to it, even with all of our travels this summer and she hated the water - this time she was being thrown down by the waves but she didn't seem to mind - she just got up and waited for the next (the first day though she was asking where the pool was - sorry no pool Brookie). Kamdon especially has a good time with Scott's family he has two cousins that are his same age and both are as in to video games as he is and he loves it, Bailey is kindof in the middle - there is older and younger but she seems to be the big fan of the younger girls where ever she is so she constantly had a following. Even Brookie had Maddie who is her same age to play with the whole time. Blane chose not to join us (Addie was sad he didn't show) and Jessica had to back out at the last minute due to her brother having the croup and not knowing if she would have it and be contagious - not by her choice though - she was pretty upset about not getting to go. Hopefully this will become an annual event we all really enjoyed ourselves and would do it again anytime. Chris even debuted his girlfriend Laura (we were beginning to wonder if she really existed) - who is a hoot - she was a great addition to the crowd.
